In 2021, Scientifically Speaking is offering FREE introductory andadvancedonline communications training to Trinity College Dublin* researchers. Inspired by the FameLab model, these workshops will run throughout the month of September and will enhance researchers' ability to communicate their work and other topics that matter to them with more impact and effect.

INTRODUCTORY TRAINING

Introductory Workshops will help you to:

  • Present with more confidence
  • Develop more powerful body language
  • Create impactful material
  • Engage effectively with the public
  • Enhance your communication with the art and skill of story-tellers
  • Learn top tips from great communicators

Eligibility:

Researchers from any discipline who are based in/connected to Trinity College Dublin. Previous Scientifically Speaking workshop participants are welcome to attend again to refresh their knowledge and skills.

Introductory Workshop 1

Introductory Workshop 2

  • Date: Tuesday 21 September
  • Location: Zoom (joining instructions sent following registration)
  • Time: 9.30am-2pm

ADVANCED TRAINING

Advanced Workshops will follow a structure modelled on the Introductory Workshop and will explore:

  • Further development of message shaping and story-telling skills
  • Interviewing skills as a tool for engagement
  • How to be interviewed by the media (podcasts, radio, TV etc)
  • Insights on how to be involved with media
  • Tips for writing and presenting

Eligibility:

Researchers from any discipline who are based in/connected to Trinity College Dublin. In particular, those who previously attended a Scientifically Speaking Introductory Workshop, 2019-2021 (though not exclusively).

*Please note that all four Scientifically Speaking workshops are open only to researchers based in/connected to Trinity College Dublin. 

**Workshops 1 and 2 have the same content and you should therefore only register for one.

About Scientifically Speaking

Scientifically Speaking was developed as part of European Researchers' Night projects in 2019-2020 led by Trinity College Dublin (PROBE and START) and University College Cork (Cork Discovers). Formerly a senior producer (programme maker) at the BBC, Malcolm Love is an independent producer, radio presenter, lecturer in public engagement and a public communication skills coach and trainer. He specialises in helping scientists, researchers and other academics communicate their work through talks, events, radio and TV and the internet. His clients include well known organisations such as ESA, NASA, CERN, British Academy, FENS (representing European Neuroscience) and numerous universities.
