Matthew Bourne’s reworking of the famous Tchaikovsky ballet is one of the choreographer's most successful productions. Bourne, originally from Walthamstow in East London, is widely regarded as one of the UK's best choreographers and his company New Adventures regularly works around the world.
Bourne is renowned for his re-working and new approaches to classic works, including his reinvention of Bizet's Carmen as 'The Car Man', and his interpretation of Swan Lake, where the traditionally female parts of the swans were danced by men. More recently Re:Bourne, the charitable arm of New Adventures, has worked with young people across the UK to introduce them to dance and nurture a new generation of performers, which included young performers creating 'curtain raiser' performances for the North American tour of Swan Lake.
